Confucius Institute at the Study Abroad Fair

The Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis was delighted to participate in the study abroad fair on September 10th. Lucky red knots and stuffed pandas adorned a table showcasing the available options for studying about and in China. Hundreds of students were able to learn about the abundant opportunities that the university offers for studying Chinese Language and Culture. In particular, pamphlets and current ASIT students were used to educate the students at the fair about the Asian Studies and International Trade major offered at the university through the Confucius Institute. This wonderful program combines the best of economics, foreign language, and East Asian history classes to form a core of knowledge that will benefit students in many different careers.
In addition, the Confucius Institute considers study abroad to be a vital part of learning about Chinese language and culture. Currently, the university offers semester-long study abroad programs at Hubei University and Three Gorges University. These two programs are a wonderful opportunity for students to expand their Chinese language skills and experience living in China. The university also offers two short-term study abroad programs. The first program is a two week trip to tour cities such as Beijing, Wuhan, and Shanghai. The second program is an intensive five week program during the summer where students can earn six credits in Chinese language while living in the city of Wuhan. Three of the students working at the Chinese booth for the study abroad fair participated in the summer program this year. They were excited to share their experiences in China and encourage other students to study abroad, as well.
